The "27th Annual National Night Out", a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), took place on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm.  Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.  In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.

Good News Bible Church was proud to team up with the Iowa City Police Department and the Broadway Neighborhood Center in sponsoring events for the Pepperwood/Broadway communities.  About 150 kids from the neighborhood visited the church, ate delicious Dane's Dairy ice cream, played in an inflatable "bounce house", watched a movie, met members of the Iowa City Police Department, and enjoyed a surprise visit from both McGruff the crime fighting dog and the University of Iowa's own "Herky the Hawk"!

"National Night Out" was designed to meet four specific goals, including: 1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; 3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; 4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Again, as an evangelical church we know that crime and criminal activity are the results of a fallen and depraved humanity.  We also know that the ultimate deterrent to criminal activity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  It's our hope that meeting these children, as well as some of their parents, will forge new relationships and opportunities to ministers in the lives of the people of the Pepperwood/Broadway community.

The Vacation Bible School Staff are preparing to take children to another time and place.  This month, July, on the 12^th through the 16^th, kids 4 years old through 6^th grade can come to Good News to visit Ancient Egypt.  If you would like to have your 4 year old to 6^th grader come to Vacation Bible School at Good News, you can either bring him or her on Monday at 6:30pm., or you are cordially invited to come to our Vacation Bible School cook out on Sunday, July 11^th from 6:00pm. to 8:00pm.  The times for Vacation Bible School will be 6:30pm. to 8:00pm. every night.  Teachers are requested to arrive at the church at 6:00pm.

Good News will be hosting a household swap for the ladies of our church.  If you are a lady and want to come, bring three items to the Church building on June 12th at 10:00 AM.  No animals or kids please!

Good News Bible Church is happy to announce the 2010 women's retreat.  This year the retreat will be held at Crooked Creek Christian Campground.  We will be having Laura Barron as our guest speaker.  Laura Baron and her husband are missionaries in Canada.  They have three children and are serving with Jews for Jesus.  The retreat will be held August 20-21st.

Sunday, April 11th, following the 2nd service you will be able to eat a free-will donation lunch at the church. All proceeds will go to help support Anna Miller's summer mission trip to Kenya. Anna and several of her friends will be cooking for and serving you. Let's eat a great meal and help send Anna to Kenya!

Good News is excited to announce that we will be having a three day Greek course for those interested.  The course will be July 22-24 at the church building.  John D. Schwandt from the The Institute of Biblical Greek will be teaching the class.  The class is entitled Greek in a Week and is provided by the institute.  If you want to sign up, go to the Greek in a Week page on the institute's web site.

The following special events will be occurring to celebrate Holy Week.

On Maundy Thursday, we will be holding seder suppers. If you are interested, please call for locations.

The next day, Good Friday, there will be a communion service at 7:00 pm at the church.

On Saturday, there will be an Easter egg hunt from 1:30-3:00pm.

Then, on Easter Sunday, there will be no first service or sunday school, however there will be a breakfast at 9:00 am followed by worship at 10:30am.

Reminder for this Sunday, February 28th, 2010. There will be no 8:00 am service. Following the 10:30 am service there will be a Chili Supper. Bring a chili to contribute if you can! Following the supper will be our annual business meeting.

Do you like pizza?  If so, we have big news for you!  A number of the youth are going to be helping at the Sycamore Mall Pizza Ranch on this Wednesday.  All tips and 10% of the profits will go to help with Haiti relief.  Please come out and support the youth in their effort.

Due to this project, all regular Wednesday evening activities have been canceled.

In order to assist with the recovery efforts in Haiti we will be collecting over the counter medications starting this Sunday the 16th.  We will also take a special offering on Sunday the 24th.

All church activities for Wednesday, January 6th are canceled, as is early risers for the Thursday, January 7th.
