Dear Good News Bible Church Family:
Tuesday, November 10, 2020 Governor Kim Reynolds addressed our state due to the dramatically increasing cases of Covid-19 in Iowa. Governor Reynolds outlined several new mandates and restrictions in an attempt to protect the health of the public while reducing the stress upon hospitals that this increase is causing. As you may know, the dramatic increase in cases of Covid-19 in Johnson County has even resulted in the closure of all public schools for a period of at least two weeks.
On Tuesday evening the elders of the Good News Bible Church met to discuss measures we should take to comply with the Governor’s recommendations. Two operational principles helped guide our thought process in this decision: 1. Our commitment to provide live, in-person worship 2. Our commitment to provide a hygienic worship environment that complies with the aforementioned recommendations.
With this in mind, the elders have decided to adopt two measures that will be in effect for all official events of the Good News Bible Church from Sunday, November 15th, 2020, through Monday, November 30th, 2020.
1. Face coverings are required when entering the building. Once you are seated in either your Sunday School Class or in the sanctuary, face coverings may be removed when the seating is set up to honor the required six feet of social distancing (Our sanctuary, foyer, and basement overflow seating is in compliance with this standard.) When leaving socially distanced areas, please put your face covering back on until outside of the building. (As per our local ordinance, face coverings are not mandatory for small children, individuals with intellectual disabilities, or individuals with chronic breathing problems.)
2. Sit with your family group during worship. (i.e. household, roommates, family members).
We believe these measures are not restrictive to our worship experience and may help in decreasing the transmission of the virus within our congregation.
Finally, if you or someone you know has attended a Good News Bible Church event and then developed Covid-19 symptoms, or has tested positive for the virus, PLEASE contact the church office (319-354-3331 or gnbc2@goodnewsiowacity.com) or one of the elders or staff as quickly as possible. Your response will be helpful in allowing us to take the appropriate actions to inform affected individuals and the congregation. If you have been exposed to someone with Covid-19 please remain home from the church for the (CDC) recommended 14 days and view the service online.
If you have any questions about the application of these stated measures please call one of the following individuals for further explanation or clarification: Pastor Chris Arch #319-321-0836, Pastor Richard Wootonn #319-541-3986, Elder Barry Bedford #319-330-3510, Elder Jim Mays #319-936-8740, Elder Jim Schlott #319-331-8629.
We appreciate your Christ-like attitude in helping to implement these temporary measures.
In Christ,
Senior Pastor Chris Arch
